How to stop getting ganked in Dota 2
You get ganked when enemies you cannot see arrive before you notice. Almost every avoidable gank comes down to four questions you can ask every few seconds: who is missing, for how long, where could they arrive from, and how far is your escape?
Free to start. Windows 10 and 11, from the Microsoft Store. No card, no Dota login.
1. Count the enemies you can see
Glance at the minimap whenever you farm. Four enemies visible means one is missing. The lane opponent who disappears from his lane is the first one to worry about: he has either gone home or is on his way to you.
2. Note how long they have been gone
The longer an enemy has been out of sight, the more places he can be. A few seconds and he is still close. Half a minute or more and he could be on your side of the map, because heroes teleport and blink. Say it to yourself when a hero vanishes (“Lina, 8:12”) and check the clock again when you see him.
3. Ward the paths, not your feet
A ward on your own tower tells you nothing you cannot already see. Put observer wards where enemies must walk to reach you: the jungle entrances and river crossings beside your lane. Carry a sentry or dust when an invisible hero is in the game.
4. Never go past your vision without an escape
Keep a Teleportation Scroll ready. When you farm or push far from your tower, know which tower, tree line or ally you will run to, and use your escape at the first sign of trouble, not when your health is already gone.
5. When it is already happening
Move toward your tower or your allies, use your escape item or spell early, and tell your team who is on you. Trying to fight a three-hero gank alone, in the open, rarely works.
Where a live coach helps
Counting enemies, timing them and checking the minimap is a lot to do while you also last-hit. Highground does the tracking for you and speaks a short warning before the gank lands, in the words it really says:
Lina left mid. Anti-Mage left top.
Laning, 8:12: two enemies left their lanes while you farmed alone on their side.
A trained model reads where you stand, which enemies are missing and how long they have been out of sight. The danger meter on the HUD shows how risky your spot is right now, with the missing and the visible enemies. It is not perfect: a warning can be late or wrong, so treat it as a second opinion; you decide what to do.
Free has no end and needs no card: the first 3 games and then 1 game a day fully coached, and a basic review of every other game. Plus coaches every game for $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
Questions
What does getting ganked mean in Dota 2?
A gank is a surprise attack by two or more enemy heroes on a lone hero, usually from outside his vision. To get ganked is to be caught by one.
How do I know a gank is coming?
Watch for missing heroes. If a lane opponent or a support disappears from the minimap, assume someone is on the way, note how long they have been gone, and stay close to an escape. Highground tracks who is missing and for how long, and warns you out loud.
Do wards stop ganks?
They make them visible. A ward on the path an enemy must walk gives you seconds of notice, but it does not stop a gank on its own: you still have to react to what it shows.
Can an AI coach warn me before I get ganked?
Highground can. A trained model reads where you stand, which enemies are missing and how long they have been out of sight, and speaks a short warning before the gank lands. It is not perfect: a warning can be late or wrong, so treat it as a second opinion.
Can I get banned for using it?
Highground reads Valve's Game State Integration feed and visible parts of your Dota window. It does not read game memory, inject code or automate play. Highground is independent of Valve and has no Valve approval; we cannot guarantee account safety or future enforcement decisions.
